Norwegian minister takes serious action against FGM

28 Feb

The Norwegian minister Inga Marte Thorkildsen presented a new plan of action to fight FGM and forced marriages in Norway. Between 2001 and 2010 only 5 cases of FGM have been reported to the authorities. Just in 2012 12 cases have been reported.  1.478 cases of forced marriages have been reported in the last 5 years to Norwegian authorities. Most of the girls and women affected by those crimes came from Somalia, Pakistan, Iraq, Afghanistan, Turkey and Iran.

This crime has no place in European societies, it is a serious human rights violation and prosecuted in Norway and all other European countries.

A new hotline, only for these cases, has been implemented as one of the presented actions to stop those crimes against little girls and young women.
