Nimko Ali was seven when she was taken to Somalia for a holiday where she underwent FGM, according to Mail Online (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/home/index.html). As she told her teacher about what happened, her teacher responded: “That´s nice dear. A bit like Bar Mitzvah,” the Jewish ritual of circumcision.
Since Nimko got public as she co-founded the organization “Daughters of Eve” (www.dofeve.org), she receives attacks and even death threats. According to unsubstantiated reports a man had offered a hitman GBP 500 to murder her.
Although FGM is illegal in the UK 66.000 women of the African communities are dealing with the after-effects and more than 20.000 young girls are thought to be at risk. “I want to help them all and let them know that they are not alone”, Nimko says.
