The Women of the Year Award was presented to her by Sacla’s CEO Clare Blampied during the annual Women of the Year gala at the Intercontinental Hotel in London. Waris Dirie received the award for the international successful campaigns of the Desert Flower Foundation she has founded in 2002. More than 400 guests and the British media attended the ceremony Monday afternoon.

Waris Dirie plans to team up with British gynaecologist Marcus Setchell who delivered Prince William and Kate Middleton’s son Prince George, to set up a Desert Flower Center in London as there are ten thousands of victims of FGM living in the UK.
