Our cooperation partner, the jewelry store Gemmini organized a Charity Event for the Desert Flower Foundation, on Tuesday, 4 November 2014. The aim of the evening was to raise awareness of FGM and to reemphasize the importance of the fight against it. Among the guests were Miss Earth Austria, Valerie Huber, Miss Austria, Christine Lugner, Yvonne Rueff and many more. After a short presentation of the Desert Flower Foundation, Miss Earth Austria, who grew up in Uganda, reported a case, where a Sudanese young women who did not become a victim from FGM has been excluded from society, as she did not follow long standing traditions. According to recent data, around 88% of all sudanese girls and women have been subjected to the cruel crime of FGM. This case shows once again, how difficult it ist to break with longstanding traditions. Valerie Huber is currently in Manila to promote our „Hand for Luck“ – With the purchase of one Hand for Luck, you support our project „Save a little Desert Flower“.
At the event, the Desert Flower Foundation could acquire more than 500 euros in donations, which are directly used for our projects.
