In her latest book „Black woman, white country“, Waris Dirie argues that to truly help Africa, not donations, but investments in ist skills and knowledge are needed. She is particularly interested in establishing projects that help African women reach their full potential and gain independence and freedom through their own income. Now, Waris Dirie, together with the German company Mey bodywear, has presented such a project.
“A truly remarkable personality with a remarkable aura”. This is how Mey described Waris Dirie after a recent photo shoot for the company with the German photographer GABO.
As part of this campaign, Waris Dirie is underlining her commitment to her African homeland. Together with Mey bodywear she is launching the “Together for African Women” charity project. Scarves that have been woven by women in Ethiopia are the centrepiece of this initiative. The proceeds from sales of these scarves will be invested in vocational training for women through the partner company in Ethiopia. helping more African women to become empowered and financially independent. The scarves are available for purchase on the Mey website
The project has already been covered by several media in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
In ihrem neuen Buch „Schwarze Frau, weißes Land“ argumentiert Waris Dirie, dass man Afrika nur durch nachhaltige Projekte helfen kann, die in die Fähigkeiten und das Wissen der Afrikaner – und vor allem der afrikanischen Frauen – investieren. Ein solches Projekt stellt sie nun gemeinsam mit dem deutschen Wäschehersteller Mey vor.
„Eine besondere Persönlichkeit mit einer besonderen Ausstrahlung.“ So beschreibt Mey Waris Dirie, als diese kürzlich für eine Kampagne der Marke vor der Kamera der Fotografin GABO stand.
Im Zuge dieser Kampagne beweist Waris Dirie ihren Einsatz für ihre afrikanische Heimat. Zusammen mit Mey bodywear ruft sie die
Charity-Aktion „Together for African Women“ ins Leben. Träger der Aktion sind Charity-Schals, die in Äthiopien von Frauen gewebt werden. Der Erlös aus dem Verkauf dieser Schals wird von der„Desert Flower Foundation in die Ausbildung weiterer Frauen in dem äthiopischen Partnerunternehmen investiert. So werden afrikanische Frauen in ihrer Selbständigkeit und finanziellen Unabhängigkeit unterstützt. Erhältlich sind die Charity-Schals über Mey.
